Everybody loves Battleship!  There is something about waging imaginary naval warfare by way of white and red pins on strategically placed plastic ships…it’s brilliant.

I must admit though, this game is a lot more fun when you have informants working for you along the way to help you win.  The object of this smart?  Get pedestrians (err…civilians) to destroy the opponent’s ships by carrying missiles across the street.  It was a Hit!  People loved it, some going as far as making rocket noises while running along the crosswalk to deliver the missile.

My favorite part was when I convinced my civilian informants to yell the coordinates of my attack (eg. “B3!!”) to Jeff, the other player.  This smart was a ton of fun, but unfortunately the rain got the best of us and we were forced to end the evening a little early.  I’ll tell ya what though, it was fine by me because even though I got wet and my game board got soaked, Jeff was the real victim that night…I sank his battleship!

Definitely the most fun I’ve had playing battleship. The common comments we got from people this time were “is this for a class?” Or “is this a social experiment?” It was well received by many.

One of these Wednesday nights I want to do the scene from the movie “300″ where Gerard Butler says “This is Sparta!!!” Except I’ll stand in the middle of the street after our comedy bit is over and say, “This is Street Comedy!!!”

The couple that stood and strategized with Jonathan for 10 minutes was awesome. And I loved how the biker missile dude didn’t have working brakes on his bike so he could only slow down slightly to deliver the Pedestrian Missile on Jon’s board. It was a total drive-by battleshipping.

All of the passers-by picked up instantly on the game, which really added to its success. Everyone had a laugh. The rain was a bummer, though, since it prevented us from playing multiple games, but having the awnings on those corners was pure Street Smart Serendipity™.

My favorite highlight was the level of focus Jeff and Jonathan exhibited. Once they started playing, there was nothing else in the world more important than sinking cardboard boats. Oh, and I also loved how almost every Pedestrian Missile carrier waved the missile around as they crossed the street like the missile was actually in flight. I think some of them even made explosion sound effects when they hit their targets. Awesome!
